Crime: Court charge man for N 1.2 million land fraud

On Tuesday, a 38-year-old businessman, Gabriel James, was brought to face the Kaduna Chief Magistrate’s Court over N1.2 million land fraud.

The defendant, who is living at Down Quarters, Kakuri, Kaduna, is faced with two-count charge of forgery and cheating.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, one Esther Abraham of Kinkinau, Kaduna, reported the case at the Gabasawa Police Station in Kaduna State on Dec. 15, 2020 he told the court.
He further said that sometimes in September 2020, James sold a plot of land located at Ungwan Makama along Yakowa Road, Kaduna, to the complainant Mrs Esther Abraham in the sum of N1.2 million.

He said:
“The defendant collected the money and gave the complainant a fake document for the land’’.

In the prosecutor’s report he said that the complainant did everything within her power to get her money back but all to no avail.
Also he claimed that the offences are contrary to the Sections 344 and 138 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

James the defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Afterwards the, Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N 200,000 including two sureties in to pay the same amount and further adjourned the case until Jan.28.
